Backing up swine flu defences

Following the Government roll out of its Swine Flu vaccination programme, St.Helens firm Burtonwood Generator & Switchgear Services (BGSS) has revealed its own vital role in safeguarding supplies of the crucial vaccine here in the North West.

With 60 million vaccines ordered for the UK by the Government, a regional distribution unit has been set up by St.Helens & Knowsley NHS Trust to store the vaccines.

BGSS Managing Director, Keith Littler, explains. “To maintain its effectiveness the vaccine has to be stored at a set temperature, requiring constant and uninterrupted refrigeration. When the storage unit was set up in Knowsley, we were asked to supply and manage a back-up power generator system so that, in the event of a power cut, the refrigeration wouldn’t fail. It’s obviously a vital project and is a testimony to our track record with the NHS that we have been entrusted with it.”
